Three Money Habits Filipinos Should Avoid

3 title

And How We Can Overcome Them
Filipinos have very unique money habits. For example, some Pinoys are very good savers, while others are extreme spenders. Some work hard for money, while others make their money grow. These different habits will determine one’s financial future. This is why it’s very important to check if we have money habits that might be compromising our financial future.

Here’s a list of common habits and mindsets that we can observe from our kababayans (or what we have ourselves) which can keep us from having a financially secure future:

3 money habits

1. THROWING EXTRAVAGANT FEASTS EVEN YOU CANNOT AFFORD IT

Bawat buwan sa iba’t ibang lugar sa Pilipinas, hindi tayo nuubusan ng mga fiestas. Bukod dito, hindi rin mawawala ang mga birthday celebrations, anniversaries, at kung anu-ano pa. Although it’s NOT wrong to spend on these celebrations, this can get totally wrong when you have to spend beyond your means at kailangan mo pa
ipangutang ang panggastos mo para dito. At dahil yearly ang mga okasyon na ito, kelan pa matatapos ang mga bayarin mo?

SPEND ONLY WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD.

2. HAVING A MANYANA HABIT

Manyana habit, derived from the phrase “mamaya na” is a common trait of putting off yesterday what one can do today. More often than not, yesterday gets moved to the next day until it’s never done at all.

We can observe this during payday when one has to save or invest. Kaka-mamaya na, madalas saving and investing is put off ‘til the next payday. Remember, unless you make saving and investing a PRIORITY, you will never get started.

3. BEING A NINGAS-KUGON WHEN IT COMES TO INVESTING

A person who’s ningas-kugon is characterized as being enthusiastic at first but leaving something unfinished or not getting started at all.

In investing, we can see it in someone who after learning about how to make their money grow, got excited planning to invest. However, after weeks and months of planning, the excitement ran-out and never got started at all!

Keep in mind that when it comes to investing, time is one of your most valuable assets. The earlier you start, the more time you give your money to grow this is why it’s very important to ACT NOW.

hi.. mr aya, i started investing jan of this year… ask ko lang po.. if bumili ako ng additional 100 stocks of my chosen cmpany.. then bigayan na ng dividend the next day… maiinclude na po ba yun sa number of shares ko… ? eg. . prev stocks ko is 100 then additional 100 today…; dividend = 200 x n per share?

    • says

If you own shares the day BEFORE ex-date, included sya sa dividend calculation. Ex. Kung ex-date sa Moonday, all the shares you own as of Friday are eligible. Anything you buy on Monday is not.
